Have you heard the phrase “ Life is measured by not what you do, but by what you do for others”? If
you agree with this philosophy, then you will realize that Read and Feed is a place where YOU can
make a difference. There is nothing more gratifying then peering into the eyes of children and seeing
the “light bulb” come on when they grasp an idea or accomplish a task. And one of the most
important tasks to grasp in life is the ability to read. Because of YOU, the volunteer, a child’s life
can be changed—what a difference YOU can make—it’s priceless!
Our volunteers are from all walks of life. They include retired and active teachers, school
administrators, business and labor personnel, and college and high school students. All are
interested in helping children learn to read, thereby helping the children along their life’s journey to
become better citizens.
Why don’t you, or your group, give us a call and see where and when you can volunteer your
talents? You will be glad you made the effort to help a child, and on the way, you will also find great
personal joy!
Volunteer Roles
Presently we have need for three types of volunteers. Here is a brief
description of each.
· Tutor: You will serve as a reading tutor for children who are in kindergarten
to fifth grade. Also, you will assist in helping serve a light dinner meal prior to
the tutoring.
· Food Pick-up and Delivery: You will pick up boxed dinners and deliver them
to the program site. Also, you will assist in serving the meals to the children.
· RV Driver: You will drive a 38’RV to the program site and return it to storage
area.. Also, you will set up tables and chairs and stow them away after the
session. (Note: No special driver’s license is needed)
